2006 and another year went by. I guess that 2006 will be better than the last one. Here a short review of the last year.
On the 13th of December 2004 my world crashed from one day to another. After one week in hospital with full blowned jaundice
and tests over tests I was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and some liver problems. On the 28th of February 2005 I had
to undergo an exploritory operation on my pancreas with the possibility of having pancreatic cancer.(Survival rate for the
monster operation - Whipple procedure - is 4% the first year). Fortunatly this was not confirmed, but as I was laying on the
operation table like a cut open turkey or better one of the CSI victims, they found out that I developed PSC (Primary Sclerosis
Cholangitis)on my pancreatic duct which is connected to the Liver and with that I developed a very rare liver disease on my
bile ducts. So they took at least my gallbladder out and closed me with 28 staples. What a feeling! After having another full
blown jaundice (looking like someone from Outer Space), I landed up in hospital again. Tests over Tests, were done with the
confirmation of PSC. Today I am doing so far fine. I have now one internal as well as one external stent to keep the bile
in the liver in the right number range, (Blood tests show how high the Bilurubin level is). I recovered from all these unfortunate
events so far pretty well and now I can graduate in Liver science. I never knew how important this organ can be. I should
have pickled that thing when I was younger LOL. During this time I have lost a lot of weight and can wear now Petit sizes,
the first time of my life, Hipp Hipp Hurray - at least something positive? I am under constant observation of my doc's and
have to go now every 8 weeks to my clinic in Cleveland for a stent change. My favorite radiologist and the nicest chap is
Dr. Geissinger who really cares about my problems. I have to mentioned that my Heptatologist Dr. Barnes is also one of the
very few doctors at the Clinic who cares about their patients. God bless them both.
I'll had times and still have my moments where I want to give up, but stubborn as I am, I wasn't and won't and I will
never be prepared to push the daisies in my age. I am no spring chicken anymore but also no old hen and even if you are fighting
loosing battle, it doesn't mean it is not worth fighting.
But now as you can see I am still kicking and laughing :)and even when I am down, I'll try to keep my head up and my liver
working.
My trip to Germany was super great. I visited so far all my favorites friends and gosh did I miss them. Specially my best
buddy which I know now for 31 years. We didn't see each other for 10 years and you can imagine how surprised he was when I
showed up at his birthday as a birthday present. I spent 5 days with him and his wife and we had a great time. Than I saw
my best girl friend and here again we connected where we left off 5 years ago. We had such a super time and in our hearts
we didn't change at all. Two weeks in Germany went by like nothing and since the 11. of April I am back in the USA and already
I am looking forward for my next trip to my friends in a few years down the road. As the Terminator would say: I'll be back!!!!!!!
I hope you enjoy my pages and I would be glad if you would leave a comment in my guestbook. Thank you so much for spending
your time on my Newspage.
